When should I use LTI vs Non-LTI export?
Non-LTI is a thick common cartridge file. In a Non-LTI package, all the content authored and linked with the outline is exported into the package as physical files. This package has all the elements to run independently in the LMS. A course distributed as a Non-LTI will not be impacted when any action is taken in Frost.
LTI is also known as a thin common cartridge file. The LTI package does not contain the actual physical files. Instead, it contains the references to the content stored in the LOR. Due to this, the size of the package is comparatively less as compared to the Non-LTI package. Also, since the content is referenced from the LOR, any changes done in the LOR (via publish, republish from Designer, or even a direct update in the LOR), will directly affect the LTI content in the LMS.
Non-LTI is the best option when you need the distributed course to be unaffected by any action taken in Frost. Opt for LTI if you want the content to get updated from Frost.
Note: LTI updates apply only over content pages. The rest of the content like assessments, assignments, and forums are included in the package and played via the native LMS player.
When should I re-publish vs re-export for an LTI package?
If you have distributed a course using LTI export, and need to do the following changes in content, a republish will work :
- Content updates inside content pages
For the following type of changes, a republish & re-export will be needed :
- Any update to content in assessment, assignment, resources and/or forum
- Any outline change, for instance- adding a node, editing nodes, deleting nodes, reordering nodes, or renaming nodes.
What changes after the implementation of CDN Caching in Frost?
CDN Caching helps reduce latency and quickly access information:
- In LOR, the user will be able to preview instantly any updates done from LOR as well as any updates published from Designer. Earlier, 15 mins wait time was experienced.
- In LMS, the roles of Admin & Teacher will also be able to preview instantly any updates.
- In LMS, the Student role will see any updates within 15 minutes of the update.
