Creating Taxonomy
What is a Taxonomy?
Taxonomy is a framework that gives a structure to create a competency, standard, outline or any hierarchical structure. You can build your own taxonomy or import the same from an external source. In this section, you will learn about various activities that can be performed around taxonomies like creating, publishing, exporting, etc.
Note: Some of the features listed below may not be applicable to all the users. These are based on the role(s) assigned to the users and the permission given to the role. To know more, refer to Frost Align Roles Help Manual.
How to create a taxonomy?

On the home page, from the Admin panel on the top, select Taxonomies. The taxonomy screen appears where you can:
- Create a new taxonomy.
- View the list of all taxonomies created.
- Edit/Delete/View the Source taxonomy of a particular taxonomy.
- Search for a particular taxonomy.
- Filter taxonomies.
Note: Each functionality mentioned in the list will be described in detail in the further sections of this article.
- Select Create New Taxonomy.
- A taxonomy can be created in two ways:
- Method 1: Import files. Here files are uploaded from the desktop or CASE URL.
- Method 2: Build your own. Here taxonomy is created using Frost Align taxonomy builder.
